RCA will host its first national call for entries - Shorelines: a National Exhibition for Excellence in Coastal Art, October 14 - November 21, 2009.

In April RCA will pay tribute to the legendary Texas sporting Artist John P. Cowan, and honor his influence on fellow artists and the community of Rockport.

Winners in the statewide juried collegiate exhibition Rising Eyes of Texas were announced Saturday, March 7, at the opening reception. Also awarded were regional high school and local middle school awards, including the Susie Love Scholarship for a graduating senior.

Artists studying with Kay Barnebey will hold an exhibition at Gallery 28.02 Latitudes from March 7th through March 21st. Their work will be displayed on easles dispersed through the Gallery art work. 

Austin ceramicist and RCA Exhibiting Artist Jason Hooper gave a demonstration of his pottery processes on Sunday, February 8, as part of the Rockport Clay Expo weekend.

Diane Pike, plein air painter and exhibiting artist at RCA, visited Rockport for the opening of her exhibition in the Garden Gallery February 7. Pike spent time with the Rockport Plein Air Group and shared her perspective on painting.

Marin Society of Artists next National Juried Exhibition will take place from August 2-30, 2009. Scott Shields, associate director and chief curator of the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, is the juror. The deadline for entry is May 1.

Every year art lovers and patrons vote for their favorite artist during the annual All-Member Exhibition, Currents. This year's Peoples Choice Merit Artist is Harriet Holland.

The first five Merit Artists for 2009 were named Saturday, December 6 at the reception for Currents, the annual all-member exhibition. A sixth Merit Artist will be chosen by popular vote and named in late January.

The 2008 National Medal of Arts was awarded to Jesus Moroles and presented by President Bush on November 17, 2008 in an East Room ceremony.
