ART - From the Streets to the Gallery

Directed by Layton Blaylock of Inferno Films, “Art From the Streets” is an award-winning documentary about artists struggling with homelessness in Austin. The film follows several characters through their trials and challenges as they prepare for an annual show and sale of their artwork at the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless. Last year, more than 1,700 art lovers, collectors and philanthropists attended the event, helping to raise more than $90,000. This year’s show recently took place over November 3 and 4, 2007.

Pat Bailey is an artist featured in the film and has struggled with homelessness. During the course of the film Bailey’s only significant possession is her car. She turns out to be one of the most popular artists in the sale, and has continued to be a successful contributor to the annual show.

As a special addition to the Film Festival Artwalk, selections of Bailey’s work will be on view and for sale at Rockport Center for the Arts over the Film Festival weekend. She will also be present Thursday evening for the opening reception at Rockport Center for the Arts, and at the screening of “Art From the Streets” Thursday evening at Main Street Arts.
