Class Description:
Bring your photos of family or utilize some of the 8x10” images I provide and let’s bring life and color to our beach paintings! Emphasis will be on fundamentals of oil painting including design and composition basics, color mixing, and value studies. I will demo side by side, two value studies using the same photo, one with warm light/cool shadows, then cool light/warm shadows. Figure rendering will incorporate what I call (okay I stole this from Peggy Kroll Roberts, a genius in contemporary figure painting) vicinity marks, and then placing more than one figure using one point perspective.
About the Instructor:
Julie has worked as an ink and cell painter at animation studio Filmation in the 1970’s and did free-lance illustration for many years before beginning oil painting. She has studied with Patrick Saunders, Peggi Kroll Roberts and Dan Gerhartz. She enjoys watercolor and painting small gouache works which brings me back to the joy of painting all of those little animation cells. She is represented by Holder-Dane Gallery in Grapevine and show at House of Neville in Fort Worth. Her painting TRACK MEET won the People’s Choice awards at the Port Aransas Art Center in 2019 and her portrait SANTA FE won best of show 2022 at the Fort Worth Women of the Arts 58th Annual Show. She is a member in good standing with Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, Portrait Society of America, and Laguna Plein Aire Painters Association. She has portraits in private collections in several states, and am proud to have been associated with K. FLORIES ANTIQUES for many years.
