Class Description:
Join Elaine Riley, a seasoned book maker, mixed media artist, and teacher, for a two-day immersive workshop designed to spark creativity and joy. This workshop, titled Moments Book, will guide participants through the process of crafting a small book collaged with moments of life, a particular experience/trip, friendships, or perhaps future moments you plan or wish for. Each page in the book will feature photos, magazine pictures, marks, stamps, fabric, stencils, papers, and more that will tell a story of your moments shared in this book. Whether you are new to mixed media or an experienced creator, you will discover new techniques and ideas to enrich your artistic practice. No prior experience is necessary.
Mixed media art offers boundless possibilities for creativity. During this workshop, you will create a small book using card stock paper embellished by you. You will learn to paint, stencil, stamp, and mark-make on your book pages using a variety of mixed media techniques. The process is often full of surprises, and each page will offer a story as a memory or plan to inspire, encourage, or soothe you whenever you need it.
Materials and Preparation:
Some materials will be provided for the workshop. Participants are encouraged to bring personal items to enhance their books, such as photos, favorite papers, charms, magazine images, pens, and markers. If you choose to use photographs, it is recommended to print them onto regular paper, as it blends better in collages than photo paper. An inkjet printer is sufficient; no special equipment is needed.
Materials to Bring:
· 10 sheets of white card stock paper for pages
· Front and Back cover for book. This can be the back of a tablet or notebook, or an actual book cover from a book you have. Look for sizes approximately 6” x 7 ½”.
