Class Description:
Watercolor Foundations: Washes, Values & Flow
A relaxed 4-week series for adult beginners. Learn essential watercolor techniques—flat and gradated washes, drop-in color, wet-into-wet effects, and simplifying values by grouping lights and darks—while discovering simple planning and layer sequencing that keep paintings luminous and intentional. Each session builds skills through clear demos and guided practice, with an emphasis on enjoyable successes rather than perfection. No prior experience needed.
Suggested Materials List (basic supplies provided for beginners)
• Watercolor paper (140 lb / 300 gsm cold press, pad or block preferred)
• Basic set of watercolor paints (student or artist grade; pans or tubes)
• Round brushes (sizes ~6, 10–12, and a larger wash brush)
• Palette (white plate will work), water containers, paper towels, small sponge, pencil, masking tape, board to support paper.
About the Instructor:
Rebecca has more than 40 years of experience blending traditional fine-art techniques with contemporary design. She studied fine art at Columbia College (full scholarship), commercial art at Regal School of Art, and digital graphics at The Art Institute of Houston.
After working as a freelance designer, Creative Director at Southwest Art Magazine, and Director of Product Development at Somerset House Publishing, she settled in Rockport, Texas. There she has taught periodically at the Rockport Center for the Arts, served six years on its board (including as President in 2021), and continues to paint in oil, acrylic, and watercolor.
Her work ranges from representational natural scenes to abstract explorations of color and form. She brings patience, clear guidance, and a love of the medium to adult beginners learning watercolor.
