Class Description:
Based on the traditional batik process, watercolor batik combines layers of watercolor paint and melted wax on delicate Japanese rice paper. This resist method allows color and texture to build gradually, revealing luminous patterns and depth once the wax is removed — a process that’s both painterly and full of beautiful surprises.

As a retired Art Educator for 30 years, I taught high school through college level drawing and painting using most mediums, techniques, and styles.
Most of those years my
students competed in VASE, the Texas based competition art format.
Today, my personal art is a journey of self-discovery and self-expression. I am free of the confines of regimented instruction and able to travel unrestrictive through my world to gather reflective moments and express them with interpretation.
My work is an on-going process by which I use the world around me to explore new ways of creating and expressing art. I am realizing my source of inquiry and inspiration is by way of my experiences.
Whether working with Prismacolor pencils on wood or realistic acrylic paintings on acrylic pours, I strive to generate a unique style to my imaginative process.
I believe a "successful" image is one that shows in a powerful way, something you see every day. That image can artfully be expressed in a way never really seen before, yet in a way which resonates emotionally with something deep within us. My expression of a bird flying above the waves may represent a yearning for freedom. Or an image of a young girl picking up sea shells on the beach may represent one's childhood.
For me, art is a process of capturing unique moments that speak to a universal human condition. I use different techniques to generate my art through which I strive for the emotional and dramatic truth of my object, rather than a literal truth.
My work, whether it be portraits, landscapes, animals or still life, is a romantic dance between abstract and realism. My passion is to provide a representation of reflective color, light and movement within nature. When you see my work, I want you to feel that moment of shared emotion and experience.
