Class Description:
This class will start with an introduction to the rich history of Delft Blue Tiles and their many uses throughout Europe - from wall coverings and kitchen backsplashes to standalone artwork and even coasters! Under Lianes guidance, students will experience the beauty of painting their own Delft Blue Tile using flowing brush strokes and delicate techniques, all while enjoying original Douwe Egberts Dutch Coffee, and Dutch cookies known as stroopwafels!
After class, students will take their coaster tiles home to be baked and varnished – completing their creation and introducing a little slice of Europe to their home.
There is no need to be a master artist - while some experience in painting or drawing is a plus, all skill levels are welcome!
About the Instructor:
Liane Goessens was raised in The Netherlands and has lived for 14 years in the USA. Her travels all over the world inspired her to create multi color paintings. Her audience gets to learn how to interact with the art, to play with it and is rewarded by a creative, unique, fun experience. She brings this art world to life with acrylic, oil paint, paper, photo's, pencil, ink. She views the world full of colors divided in light and dark and works to contain elements of all.
Liane learned how to paint at an early age as her parents encouraged her to join drawing competitions and studied art at the Performing Arts Academy in Cambridge Canada. She joined several art classes in the UK and in Belgium as well. In 2004 she met Gudrun Fabry who became her colleague for many years. They won the award of Best Lady Bird Design and worked together in their studio in Belgium. Since then, they exhibited in alternative spaces in Belgium, The Netherlands and across the USA. Liane Goessens taught many classes in schools and in her studio- mainly in abstract art and painting Delft Blue tiles.
Her creative bike rack designs won awards in Shreveport LA and are currently used on many streets there. She has also won several competitions with her paintings.
