About the Instructor:
In 2017, Debbie retired from a career in non-profit arts administration to devote her time to her own art. In over three decades, she has worked for several prestigious community arts organizations like Kerr Arts and Cultural Center, The Hill Country Arts Foundation, The Rockport Center for the Arts, and The Art Center of Corpus Christi. Even before her retirement she found time to create many works which were selected for competitive regional shows and won numerous awards including several “Best In Show” honors. In 2024, Debbie was asked to create art for the Annual CCA Babes on the Bay, 25th Anniversary T-Shirt and Awards. She has been the a featured artist for several years at the popular sidewalk art event, “Kerrville Chalk Festival” where she created 7’ X 7’, temporary, pastel paintings on the ground.
Debbie says of her work, “My art is an exclamation of my love of art and nature. I enjoy taking a small thing and by painting it bigger and bolder than life, draw attention to beauty that might otherwise be overlooked. Enlarging the subject, I like to create an abstraction by leaving parts off the page. Basically, my art is about sharing things I find beautiful and interesting. My lure series is a great example.” Her art ranges from large to small, pastel to mixed media, and realistic to non-representational but will always feature high contrast, interesting composition and bold, exciting color.
Debbie lives with her husband, A.J. in Lamar, Texas. They are the owners of BlackJack Point Oyster Company, the fourth oyster farm in the state of Texas, located in Aransas Bay.
