Hands-on Culinary Experience
Class description:
Join Mimi Kitchenboss for a special Teriyaki Masterclass at the Rockport Center for the Arts! We’re taking teriyaki beyond the bottle and making our own sauce completely from scratch. You’ll learn what gives teriyaki its signature sweet and savory flavor, then discover simple ways to adjust the sauce and create different variations for all kinds of dishes. Together, we’ll make Teriyaki Salmon and Teriyaki Chicken, complete with delicious side dishes to turn them into a full meal. Come ready to cook, learn, eat, and add a versatile new sauce to your kitchen repertoire!

About the Instructor:
Mimi describes herself more as a cooking host rather than a teacher, because she focuses more on the overall culinary experience. She’s not here just to teach you a recipe; the internet can do that. She’s here to offer that personal touch, that tactile environment and that cozy, warm feeling of learning to cook a new dish with your friend. She offers approachable, fun cooking classes for all ages and skill levels that focus on Asian cuisines. The dishes and recipes she shares are authentic and traditional, and she takes you on a journey to discover the culture and history behind them. When you join a class, her goal is to make you feel welcomed, confident and happy. You come for the recipes; you return for the vibes.
“In the Philippines, our love language is food. Food is how we build, maintain and nourish relationships, new and old.”
That same sense of care and connection, of both people and culture, is baked into the Mimi Kitchenboss philosophy. After moving to Texas at the beginning of the pandemic, Medrano created an Instagram account to share her quarantine experience filled with cooking and baking. This eventually led to teaching a small group of friends how to make dumplings from scratch, and from there, word began to spread. More people wanted to learn from Medrano and Mimi Kitchenboss, as the culinary workshop it is today took off.
