Class Description:
Whether you are new to pastels or coming back for more, you will increase your understanding of this fascinating medium through a combination of demonstrations, experimentation, and practice. Get ready to be pleasantly challenged in this fun and casual learning environment that includes lots of positive feedback and coaching.
Pastels are unsurpassed for vivid color and portability. Explore techniques and materials to make your mark with pastels.
Supply list:
Must-Haves
· A set of Soft Pastels (15-30 halfsticks is minimum) NOT OIL PASTELS Good brands to consider are Rembrant, Sennelier, Unison, Terry Ludwig, Blick Artists’ Soft Pastels
NOTE: There are student/studio grade pastels if you are on a tight budget but you will not experience the vivid pure pigments that come with premium brands.
· A few sheets (6 – 8 minimum) of sanded pastel paper. Any size you like. Art Spectrum and UArt 400 grit are my favorites.
· A good clean drawing eraser or gum eraser
· Masking or Artist Tape
· A Drawing board or Foam Board sheet larger than your paper
· Baby wipes or a damp towel in a Ziplock or plastic container
· A notepad and pen or pencil for making notes.
Nice to Haves
· A set of Prismacolor Nu-pastels
· Other pastel papers in a variety of colors or black and white.
I will have lots of materials for you to try before you buy so don’t worry about loading up on materials until you figure out what you like. Great places to purchase are Dick Blick, Cheap Joes, Dakota Pastels, and Amazon
