There are many things that set a Bertram fishing vessel apart from other boats in its category. Bertram became famous for the deep v shaped design of its hull, large cockpit size, and speed. Sun Worthy is a fully restored 31′ Bertram, built in1974. It is powered by twin Yanmar diesel 260 hp engines that can reach top speeds of 27 mph and holds 300 gallons of fuel. Along with the exceptionally large cockpit for a boat of its size, there is a v berth for sleeping and a head (the nautical term for bathroom).
When the 31′ Bertram first debuted in 1960 it helped usher in a new level of comfort and speed. Even though regular production of the boats ceased in 1983, their popularity through the years have continued to make them highly sought after boats.
Terry Brader is only the third owner of the boat, which was acquired in New Jersey. The boat is perfect for taking 6 to 8 people out on fishing tournaments, with a fly bridge and ample room for poles. Part of the restoration involved installing all new teak on the gunnels. The all fiberglass boat has been painted with all grip paint, which is a two part epoxy paint. The owner normally keeps her docked at Cove Harbor and uses it as his personal fishing boat.
