Jewelry
Metal Jewelry Making Series
with Mary Ware
8-week series, Mondays, 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM January 11 - February 29
Join Mary for a comprehensive exploration of the art of metal jewelry making. This class provides comprehensive instruction and hands-on practice designed to build knowledge and skills about the properties of metal and use of specialized tools to fabricate metal jewelry. Class exercises will include using all the tools to cut, shape, texture, anneal, form and finish focal pieces, as well as create components known as ‘findings’. Findings such as ear wires, eye pins, jump rings and clasps are necessary to connect, attach, link, and wrap personalized metal jewelry. Making one’s own findings means always having the necessary pieces on hand! Students will often use items fabricated in previous classes to complete pieces and build additional skills. Most classes will create finished pieces.

Abstract Painting
Exploration of Abstract Painting
with Rebecca Bridges Rice
8-Week Series, Wednesdays, 1:30 - 4:30 PM January 13 - March 2
Abstract art does not depict objects in the natural world, but instead uses color and form in a non-representational way. The abstract art we will explore should be a personal expression of your ideas and concepts. This class will explore how to use elements and principals of design such as texture, color, line, shape, tone, value, movement and balance to create your designs. As students work at their own level and pace, beginners and those with previous painting experience are welcome. You may choose to paint in acrylics, oil, watercolor, pastel, colored pencil --whichever media is most comfortable. It is not necessary to purchase an entire setup of oil or acrylic if it is new to you. We will start simply using limited colors and sketches, later moving to canvas or paper.

Drawing
Drawing What You See
with Martha Berkebile
4-Week Series, Tuesdays 1:30 - 4:30 PM January 26 - February 16
When we look at a subject that we would like to render, our brains go through a complex set of gyrations to interpret what we see. That interpretation guides our hands as we pick up our pencil or brush to render what is before us. The end result is our own individual artistic interpretation of the subject. It may or may not look like what we intended. The better we understand what we're actually looking at, the better are our chances of drawing what we see. In this class, we will explore ways to improve the accuracy or our interpretation with the goal of producing drawings and paintings that better represent our individual artistic vision.
